Screen Innovations Drops Dual-Sided KAOS 360 Projection Screen

Screen Innovations has introduced the KAOS 360 Rear-Pro Projection Screen, a dual-sided motorized outdoor rear-projection screen designed to give integrators more flexibility when planning large-format entertainment spaces outside the home.

The Austin, Texas-based manufacturer says the new screen combines its proprietary 360-degree optic with the KAOS Onyx Retention System, creating a rear-projection solution built to maintain image stability in demanding outdoor environments. The system supports screen sizes up to 24 feet wide and is designed to deliver bright, uniform images on both sides of the screen across a 160-degree viewing cone.

For outdoor projects, that dual-sided approach is the heart of the pitch. Instead of forcing seating, pool areas, patios, or lawn spaces to orient around a single front-facing screen, KAOS 360 allows one projector and one screen to serve viewers on opposite sides of the surface. For designers, builders, and integrators working on entertainment-focused exterior spaces, that can open up more natural furniture plans and more flexible gathering zones.

Rear projection outdoors, however, brings a practical challenge: the screen surface needs to remain flat enough to preserve focus and image integrity. SI says the KAOS Onyx Retention System was engineered specifically for that issue, delivering up to three times greater air-load capability than conventional outdoor projection screens.

The company is positioning that retention system as especially important because even moderate breezes can affect a traditional rear-projection surface. By keeping the screen flatter, KAOS 360 is intended to preserve focus, uniformity, and overall image performance in conditions where conventional outdoor systems can struggle.

The 360-degree optic uses light-diffusing particles embedded in the projection surface to distribute projected light evenly. According to SI, that helps produce hot-spot-free images with strong off-axis performance, while still giving installers room to use lens shift and keystone correction when projector placement requires it.

The product is also designed with architectural visibility in mind. When not in use, the motorized screen retracts into either a surface-mounted box or a recessed pocket cassette, with multiple finish options available to better match the surrounding space. That disappearing act matters in outdoor living environments where the technology needs to support the design rather than dominate it.

KAOS 360 is fully integrated with the broader Screen Innovations ecosystem, including SI screens, shades, and control systems. For dealers, that gives the product a place within larger exterior entertainment and shading packages rather than treating the screen as a standalone component.

“We put the 360 optic outdoors years ago and our dealers loved it but there was one major problem, even a stiff breeze would move the screen so much you had distortion and loss of image focus,” said Ryan Gustafson, founder and CEO of Screen Innovations. “Since that day we have been trying to find a way to solve this problem to allow the ultimate big screen experience outdoors again, KAOS is exactly that giving dealers the ultimate flexibility in seating location and projector placement!”

Screen Innovations will demonstrate KAOS 360 Rear-Pro Projection at CEDIA Expo 2026, taking place September 1-4 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. The company will exhibit at Booth #2818.
