CEDIA Puts Design Collaboration at the Center of Smart Home Day

CEDIA will lead global Smart Home Day activities on November 3, 2026, with a focus on strengthening relationships between technology integrators and the design and build community. The program combines expert-led webinars, global networking events, and campaign materials that members can use to bring the conversation into their own showrooms and professional networks.

This is CEDIA’s second consecutive year leading the activities and its first Smart Home Day since the organization launched its Design Build Outreach department and brought on design professional Andrea Harvey to lead that team. That change gives this year’s program a specific focus: bringing the professionals responsible for residential technology into closer conversation with those shaping a home’s architecture, interiors, and construction.

“Smart Home Day 2026 is particularly special as it’s CEDIA’s first with a dedicated design and build department in place,” said Daryl Friedman, global president and CEO of CEDIA. “With that, we’re bringing a fresh focus to the intersection of technology and design.”

For integrators, the day offers a reason to invite allied professionals into a discussion about how connected systems fit into a residential project. For designers and builders, the programming provides an entry point into the work of technology specialists and the spaces they help create.

Two Webinars on the November 3 Schedule

CEDIA’s announced education lineup includes two sessions aimed at the design and build audience:

  • RIBA Webinar: “Designing the Connected Home,” November 3 at 11 a.m. GMT.
  • NKBA|KBIS Webinar: “Home Theaters & Media Rooms: A Design-Forward Approach,” November 3 at 12 p.m. ET.

The topics connect whole-home technology planning with the design of dedicated entertainment spaces, giving professionals two ways to engage with the relationship between systems and residential design.

CEDIA will also feature blog posts and articles about technology and design, along with an inspiration gallery of CEDIA Award-winning homes. The gallery adds completed project examples to the day’s educational resources.

Bringing the Conversation Into the Showroom

Members can extend the campaign locally by hosting showroom events, connecting with design and build professionals, or sharing Smart Home Day content on social media. CEDIA’s toolkit includes customizable graphics and captions, logos, ads, and a press release template to support those efforts.

“As a designer who now has the privilege of working within the CEDIA channel on a daily basis, every day feels a little like Smart Home Day to me. But I know that’s not the case for every designer,” said Andrea Harvey, CEDIA’s design and build director. “Having a dedicated day on the calendar makes design and tech collaboration impossible to ignore and gives us an opportunity to bring more people into the conversation.”

For firms planning their own participation, the combination of scheduled education and adaptable campaign materials allows outreach to take the form of an online session, an in-person showroom gathering, or a conversation with a potential design partner.
