Smart shading has been gaining ground as designers, builders, integrators, and fabricators look for ways to make motorized window treatments easier to specify, install, and live with. Somfy Group’s latest move points directly at that opportunity.
Somfy announced that Olibra LLC, owner of the Bond brand, has joined the Somfy Group. Bond, founded in 2016 and headquartered in New Jersey, has built one of North America’s more widely adopted smart-home connectivity platforms, with support for interior and exterior shades, ceiling fans, fireplaces, landscape lighting, and other everyday home systems.
For the design and integration channel, the significance is in how the move could simplify the path from motorized product to cohesive client experience. Bond’s platform is designed to be brand-agnostic, giving fabricators and dealers a single connected platform for managing a broad range of motorized products across brands and technologies.

“This milestone reinforces Somfy’s long-term commitment to the North American market and our vision for the future of the connected home,” said Sébastien Picot, CEO of Somfy Group. “By bringing together Somfy’s decades of leadership in motorization and automation with Bond’s expertise in connectivity, we’re accelerating a shared ambition: making smart shading effortless, interoperable, and accessible everywhere.”
According to the announcement, Bond will continue to operate independently under its existing leadership and team. That continuity will be important for customers, fabricators, dealers, and integration partners who already rely on the platform, while Somfy’s backing gives Bond additional resources to invest in its roadmap.
Zohar Shinar, CEO of Olibra, said Somfy’s global reach and commitment to openness will help Bond “accelerate and scale innovation” while continuing to serve customers and partners. He also pointed to the open Bond platform as a way for fabricators and dealers to manage a broad range of interior and exterior motorized products, regardless of brand or technology.
The move also strengthens Somfy’s position in North America at a time when shading is becoming a more central part of connected design conversations. Automated shades are increasingly tied to comfort, daylight management, energy performance, privacy, security, and the overall feel of a finished space. When those systems are easier to commission and integrate, they become easier for the trade to recommend with confidence.
Bond’s ecosystem includes bridges, an app, accessories, and integration partners, with particular strength in outdoor applications. That outdoor component matters as exterior shading, pergolas, screens, and outdoor living environments become more connected, more automated, and more central to residential design.
“We believe deeply in the future of the connected home in North America, and in making smart shading solutions every homeowner can adopt with confidence,” said Yilmaz Ozturan, president and CEO of Somfy Systems Inc. “Bond’s reputation for simplicity, reliability, and interoperability gives our clients and partners a more scalable way to grow the smart shading category.”
For Somfy, the alliance reinforces a long-term bet on smart shading as a growth category. For Bond, it brings the scale and resources of a global motorization leader. For the channel, the promise is straightforward: fewer barriers between design intent, motorized shading, and the connected-home experience clients increasingly expect.
