JBL Cove Brings a New Whole-Home Audio Play to Connected Living

JBL is moving deeper into the whole-home audio conversation with JBL Cove, a new Wi-Fi speaker range designed to make multi-room listening simpler for households while giving the brand a broader role in connected entertainment systems.

The line includes three speakers: JBL Cove M1, a compact model for everyday listening; JBL Cove P1, a portable battery-powered speaker with Dolby Atmos; and JBL Cove X1, the flagship room-filling model with four tweeters, dual woofers and Dolby Atmos support. Each can operate on its own, in a stereo pair, or as part of a larger multi-room system.

With this new Cove lineup, JBL is packaging its home audio ambitions around flexibility: simple setup, room-aware performance, portable listening, soundbar integration, and control that can happen through the JBL One app or directly from the speaker.

JBL says Cove is powered by its in-house platform and the JBL One app, which lets users connect and control speakers throughout the home, create groups, and access in-app music services. The system is also designed to avoid some of the small frictions that can make multi-room audio feel fussy. Users can play music through a group or start streaming in a single room without ungrouping speakers or resetting the system.

The speakers also include technologies aimed at making performance more consistent across real rooms. Constant Sound Field is intended to deliver a well-balanced listening experience throughout the room, automatic self-tuning supports flexible placement and room optimization, and AI Sound Boost is designed to limit distortion at higher volumes.

JBL’s claimed point of difference betwen their whole-home system and others out there is “ease of use across everyday listening moments.” The company describes Cove as an app-optional whole-home system with a simple three-step setup, so users are not pushed into the app every time they want music to move through the house. Grouping can still happen in JBL One, but the experience is intended to feel less like managing zones and more like starting music where it is needed.

JBL draws a contrast with whole-home systems that can require more active group management. With Cove, the company says a listener can play music throughout the house or begin streaming in one room without ungrouping, resetting speakers, or interrupting the system. The Music Follows Me feature extends that idea from room control to personal movement.

Carsten Olesen, president of Consumer Audio at HARMAN, described JBL Cove as an important step in the company’s ambition to become a leading force in home audio, combining JBL sound with simplicity, flexibility and value.

The approach speaks to homes where audio shifts between casual music, shared entertainment, private routines and occasional home theater moments. In practical terms, a client could begin with background music in the kitchen, carry the playlist into another room, and later fold compatible Cove speakers into a soundbar-based theater setup without treating those as separate product worlds.

JBL is also tying Cove into its Bar Series MK2 soundbars, giving the range a path from music listening into immersive home theater. Through the JBL One app, Cove speakers can be added to compatible soundbars as rear channels for a Dolby Atmos setup. At launch, JBL says the Cove P1 and Cove M1 can serve in that role, while the Cove X1 works with JBL Bar MK2 systems for multi-room music.

Connectivity is broad enough for the modern connected home. The line supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect, along with high-resolution audio support. Spotify Tap is available through the Moment button, and Alexa Built-In adds voice control, smart home control and access to Alexa+ in the U.S. for Prime members and Alexa+ subscribers.

The product spread gives JBL several ways into the home. The M1 can act as an affordable entry point or compact room speaker. The P1 adds portability, an IP56 rating and up to 14 hours of battery life with a dock for charging. The X1 is positioned for stronger standalone performance in larger listening spaces.

For integrators and designers, Cove may be most useful in projects where a client wants branded, easy-to-understand audio without turning every room into a custom architectural speaker zone. It gives the conversation a lifestyle entry point, while still connecting to a more complete entertainment ecosystem when the project calls for it.

JBL Cove speakers will be available in black and white at JBL.com beginning September 13, 2026. Pricing is $229.95 for JBL Cove M1, $399.95 for JBL Cove P1 and $449.95 for JBL Cove X1.
