Sonos has (finally!) opened preorders for Amp Multi, its new multi-zone streaming amplifier designed specifically for professional AV integrators and the custom installation market. The product is expected to begin shipping August 25, giving dealers and channel partners a new Sonos platform for larger distributed-audio projects.
Amp Multi delivers 8 x 125W of power across as many as four zones. In practice, that means integrators can support robust, consistent performance across multiple rooms or listening areas while keeping the system architecture streamlined for homes and projects where clean installation matters as much as the listening experience.
Sonos is positioning Amp Multi as the “most advanced amplifier” it has built to date, and several of the details are clearly aimed at the realities of professional deployment. GaN-powered amplification and Post Filter Feedback technology are designed to improve efficiency, clarity, and control, while the unit’s fanless convection cooling and enclosed-installation-friendly chassis speak directly to rack rooms, closets, and other spaces where noise, heat, and reliability all matter.
Setup and Tuning Aimed Squarely at Integrator Workflows
The setup experience also reflects Sonos’ focus on the pro channel. Each Amp Multi emits a unique audible chirp that can be triggered from the Sonos app, eliminating the need for manual PIN entry during installation. The same app interface gives integrators a centralized way to manage zones, sources, and outputs.
For fine-tuning, Sonos is adding ProTune manual tuning, which allows installers to precision-optimize each output. Available controls include a 10-band parametric EQ, gain control, adjustable delays, and additional tools intended to help integrators tailor performance to the room, the speaker package, and the client’s expectations.
Designed for the Rack, and for the Channel
Installation details are not treated as afterthoughts. Recessed connectors and a streamlined 2U rack mount, sold separately, are designed to simplify rack integration and improve cable management. Combined with fanless cooling, those choices make Amp Multi a practical fit for the kinds of enclosed infrastructure spaces common in professionally designed homes.
Sonos says Amp Multi is sold exclusively through its professional channel partners with installation. That positioning is important: the product is not simply a higher-output amplifier for consumers, but a channel-specific tool meant to help integrators deliver bespoke multiroom audio systems with more precision and efficiency.
For the design/build community, Amp Multi reinforces a broader shift in connected home technology. Performance still matters, but so do invisible infrastructure, easier serviceability, flexible zone control, and systems that preserve the design intent of a space. If Amp Multi delivers on that promise in the field, it could give integrators another way to make whole-home audio feel less like equipment and more like part of the living environment.
